Follow the below steps.
1. Visual & Safety Check
- Inspect the casing for cracks, bulges, or leaks.
- Check connectors for corrosion or looseness.
- Make sure no cables are damaged before testing.
2. Voltage Check
- Use a use a voltmeter set to DC voltage mode.
- If the voltage is significantly below its nominal voltage (such as 10V on a 24V system), the battery may be faulty or deeply discharged.
3. Software check
- Connect to the battery
- If the battery can communicate:
- See if there are any active safety states (OV=overvoltage,UV=undervoltage)
- If in OV see if you can discharge the battery out of safety state
- If in UV see if you can charge the battery out of safety state
- If the battery is bricked (both MOSFETs turned off) use unbricking tool
- Rule of thumb:
- If the battery only blocks discharge, try charging
- If the battery only blocks charging, try discharging
- See if there are any active safety states (OV=overvoltage,UV=undervoltage)
- If the battery can communicate:
- If the battery does not communicate
- Use a variable DC power supply
- PLEASE BE ADVISED: Keep continuous monitoring through PC software tool. If communication doesn’t return in 30–60 seconds, extended forced charging can be dangerous, and charge should be stopped.
- For 24V system set to 29V 1A
- For 48V system set to 54V 1A
- See if the communication comes online again.
4. Capacity Check (Optional if the battery is functional)
- Fully charge the battery.
- Connect a known constant load.
- Measure how long the battery lasts until it reaches the cut-off voltage
- Capacity measurement
- A * hours = Ah (so for a 100Ah battery it should last for 10 hours at 10A discharge)
- Do the discharging test at 0,1C (100*0,1=10A)
- Cutoff
- 24V system: around 21-23V depending on BMS settings
- 48V system: around 39V depending on BMS settings
- Capacity measurement
5. If issues persist
- Read out all logs
- Screenshots from BMS software
- Make a description of the issue with measurements
